Look for the 'image' button on the tool bar ( usually at the top of your application )
Click on 'image' then 'information' a screen should pop up informing you ( among other things ) of the size of Great Aunty Mabel.
If this size is anything like 1000000 x 1000000 pixels the chances are you will not be able to send it across the internet. ( FYI - This site is designed to be viewed at 800 x 600 pixels )
Oh dear what can we do ? We don't really want to keep Great Aunty Mabel cooped up in our PC, she wants to be able to roam freely around the world frightening young children and horses everywhere !
Fear not - all is not lost - click on the 'image' button again and then 'resize / resample'. In the window that pops up, make sure you tick the 'preserve aspect ratio' option, then enter your new size in the 'set new size option'
Around 300 pixels width is a good option. Cool - is that it ? - not quite. Go back to the tool bar, click the 'file' button and then select 'save as' In the box that pops up look for 'save as type' and select '.gif' then save to the directory of your choice. ( the .gif format although of lower quality than .jpg makes for a much smaller file size. FYI - The internet likes these formats, you could also use a .png but that is another story)
BRILLIANT! Do these tips apply to ALL image editing programs?...Er, No, but you should find similar commands in all those pesky dialogue boxes that appear when you click the buttons in the tool bar.
If you right click on an image and select
'properties', You will be able to ascertain the size. How do I send Great Aunty Mabel by e-mail?
